Chef Tom Cunanan is the 2019 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic and a trailblazer in Filipino cuisine. He first gained experience in kitchens across Washington, D.C., including Vidalia, Bibiana, and Ardeo + Bardeo, where he served as executive chef. In 2015, Chef Cunanan opened the beloved Filipino restaurant, Bad Saint, helping to redefine Filipino cuisine in the U.S. In 2016, Bon Appétit recognized Bad Saint as one of the best new restaurants in the country, and in 2017, Eater named it one of the 38 essential restaurants in America. After being named a James Beard finalist in both 2017 and 2018, Chef Cunanan took home the prestigious award in 2019. Now serving as Head Sous Chef at Finn, Chef Cunanan works alongside Chef Joe Murphy to elevate the rebrand of The Finn, bringing his expertise and creativity to the evolving culinary landscape of the concept.
